Introduction

Hello my name is Margerth Crucey Benjamin my pronouns are She/Her, I’m majoring in psychology Im excited because this course will explore themes about social sciences as we saw in the syllabus and we will write our opinions and we can get to exchange ideas in class, this is very exciting because we all come from different backgrounds that might change the way we think or maybe it can make us think similar, base on this we will get many different opinions from every theme we touch in the class. I’m really excited to learn more about our communities and how society segregate them to keep us out of knowledge and vulnerable. In my opinion if we put aside things like “I’m from blah blah blah I can’t really date/be friends with X person” or in other situations could be “my religion is prohibiting me from being who I’m or from dating who I want” the world would be much better without this ideas because we won’t limit ourselves, because not being friends with someone just because of their gender identity, ethnicity, races, etc… is just ignorant (sorry to say this), because at the end of the day we are all humans. Also, I want to understand why some people still think this way, some people think this way maybe because they were raised this way or maybe their social surroundings influenced this belief. I’m open to opinions from my classmates I would like to know what do you all think about this, if races, ethnicity, gender identity, etc… is something that could really stop you from creating any type of relationship or connection with someone?

  1. Hii, I like how you said that even though we come from different backgrounds, we still face similar problems. I agree that not wanting to be friends with someone because of their race or gender identity just limits us. I’m also interested, like you, in how family and culture shape the way people think about these things.

    1. Hi Margerth, it was nice to read your introduction and to meet you as well! I agree deeply on your point of view that the world would be a much better place if we didn’t have to limit ourselves to interact with others just because of their culture, religion, race or ethnicity. I believe that because of that we never really know how certain friendships or companionships will develop if we don’t at least try.

  2. Hi Margerth! I completely agree with you. I feel like putting some of our cultural differences aside and being open minded would make life easier and better for everyone. (Also, I got very surprised when I saw we had the same class, I guess we got lucky.) anyway, I’m looking forward to working with you again!
