After having reviewed the syllabus and having attended class, my first impression on this course was thinking about how useful and how relevant the topics we will be discussing are in my life. I have already discussed some topics over gender, culture, age, and other themes with some of my classmates and got to see and compare our thoughts on said topic. In my lifetime I have used observation and reflection to understand a group or behavior. To me, this is the best way to gain a further understanding about behavior or things in general that you may just not understand. The way I engage and observe with cultures and communities around me is by actively paying attention to the prevalent social issues in our current times and learning about its history and how to go about helping solve issues. Coming from a family of immigrants myself, the topic of immigration and how it is being handled in our country today is an issue that stays at the forefront of my mind. The way I engage with this issue is by educating myself on different perspectives, actively speaking out and engaging with people who are actively being affected by these issues. Having a passion for topics like these makes me excited to further explore the backgrounds and communities that come with this topic that I may not have as much information on as I should. I look forward to working with people in furthering my understanding on current issues and themes of the world.
