Adrian Mosquea – Introduction

My name is Adrian Mosquea (He Him) and I am majoring in Mechanical Engineering although I might change it to another type of engineering later. I love watching and playing all types of sports including Baseball, Basketball and football. I also love to play video games and play with my Rubik’s Cube.

My first impressions about the class are overall very positive. I love when we share the aspects of our identity that we cared about. I thought the activity was very interactive for us and it allowed us to break the ice which made us feel comfortable in the class. I also enjoyed the conversations that we had in the small groups because I got to know some of my classmates and learn about their background. Something that I did not enjoy about the class is when I found out we have in class essays. I usually struggle to come up with ideas about what to write next which makes me feel like I am always racing the time when writing essays. However, once I get a clear outline about what to write, I get into a groove when I am able to express my ideas fluently and give detailed analysis.

I’ve always used observation and behavior to understand groups or behavior. One example is when I travel on the train every single day. When I am going to school everyday, I often focus on whether or not people adhere to social norms that are morally correct. Is this person going to give his seat to this old man? Is everybody else noticing the little girl selling candy bars on the train? Are people going to give their money to this homeless person? These are questions that I am constantly asking myself everyday when I travel on the train. One of the good things about living in New York City and taking the train is that you are daily around crowds of people which gives you an insight about how people behave and feel. When I am on the train, I find out about all the new trends, go through the craziest experiences and learn new things about people that I did not know before.

Although I am an engineering major and not going into the realm of social science topics, the truth is that I’ve always been interested in how people think. Learning about how humans act and think not only helps socialize but also teaches you how to respond in a variety of situations involving people. I am excited to learn about people and their behaviors because its going to help me communicate better and improve my leadership when working with others. I want to learn about the psychology of people regarding love and business because its going to help me in my personal life.

  1. I agree, you can see so many interesting things happening on the train. I see the homeless and the ones selling candy bars with chidren, which is upsetting but unfortunately I have to remind myself that if we let ourselves get emotional or sympathetic for every struggling person we come across then it would get very stressful and taxing on us quickly.

  2. Adrian great observations and acknowledging the different types of interactions that spanned within the fixed setting. I can see we both share the similarity of being observant and asking questions in real time within our minds regarding to behavior or groups of people. Hope to connect in class and see what other similarities we may share.
