Hi, my name is Noah Rodriguez. I am a first-year student at CCNY! My major is political science, and my pronouns are he/him. Originally, I was very nervous to start this class, mainly being I am not confident in my skills and abilities as a writer. I am most excited to begin our first research project, interviewing someone from another culture. I am excited mostly for this course because, ethnographically, I love learning, observing, and studying different cultures from a firsthand account. After reading through the syllabus and speaking with Professor Harris, I feel more confident in my potential success in this course. I am very excited to begin the multiple research projects, and I can’t wait to improve my skills as a writer this semester. I use writing to vent, cope, or alleviate any stress or pain that I am dealing with. Lately, however, I have not been as active in journaling/writing. I hope this course motivates me to pick up writing as my main hobby once again. One of my goals this semester is to be more outgoing with my peers and classmates. Yet, I am terrible at remembering names, so I do apologize if I ask multiple times. I’m excited for this course, and I hope the workload isn’t too stressful! I noticed that the professor seems very outgoing, down-to-earth, and understanding. This also helped me overcome any anxiety or doubts I had about this course. Even if I know it will be challenging, I believe that the professor has my back, and I feel confident about passing this course.

Hi Noah, its nice to hear that this course might motivate you to get back into your writing hobby. It sucks to see someone lose interest in a hobby they once loved so much but it is amazing to see them get back into it. I know the class and getting to everyone will make you nervous, I feel you, but I strongly believe you will do amazing in this class! I hope to know more about you and more about your writing hobby and how much it means to you. Have a great day and see you in class!
Hi Noah! I can relate to what you said about not journaling as much lately—I used to write a lot too and I’m also hoping this course will help me get back into it. I think it’s great that one of your goals is to be more outgoing with classmates; I’m sure many of us are in the same boat, so you’re not alone. And don’t worry too much about remembering names, I think most people understand! I also agree that the professor’s energy makes the class feel a lot less intimidating, which is reassuring. Looking forward to learning alongside you this semester!
Nice to meet you Noah. It’s good knowing that your using this class to improve your skills in writing and shift your focus more on journalism. When it comes down to remembering names, it can definitely be a handful so you’re not alone! It may take some time to get used to, but all of us have the same goal, and that is getting to know each other. Also, I’m sure many of us are going to be stressed because of the workload, I already do too, but if you need any help don’t afraid to reach out to your classmates for help! Can’t wait to work with you throughout this semester!
Hey Noah! I totally get you on not being confident on your writing skills and honestly I connect it to the imposter syndrome I’ve dealt with all throughout college. But I believe that with professor Harris, connecting with classmates and using all the resources CCNY provides we will become better writers by the end of the semester.
